Jaquan *Malik Champloo* Sanders was born In Queens New York June 22, 1989, but was raised in Brooklyn New York for most of his childhood. Living with his older sister, younger brother and single mother, Malik lived a sheltered yet free childhood. At the age of 13, his artistic side began to emerge. Writing poetry and sketching became his pastime (along with playing video-games and listening to various types of music). This ultimately kept him from the harsh life-style most teens from his generation chose to live. After entering high school, Malik's outlook on music, style and life changed. For years, Malik loved Japanese cartoons called Anime (such as Dragonball Z and the Gundam series ). His appreciation for the far fetched stories and beautiful art-style drew him in thus causing him to studying the Japanese culture. In addition to his favorite genres of music such as Nu-Metal (Linkin Park) House (Daft Punk) and Hip-Hop (Nas), Japanese music joined the fray and undeniably took over. Due to the over glorified lifestyle of guns, drugs and disrespect to women, Malik's love for Hip-Hop/Rap died. A glimmer of light brought Malik back home after experiencing an unexpected combination in 2006. "Samurai Champloo" debut in America. This award winning show captured his eyes and ears with a combination of beautiful visuals and unique a soundtrack. A song named "Counting Stars" by the late Jun Seba aka Nujabes, inspired him to mix his poetry with the distinctive sounds of Nujabes. Out of respect for his favorite anime, Malik took the name Champloo and made it his own.
