Biography

The last 6 years I have spent writing songs while my babies nap, lingering long into the wee hours of the night trying to lay down tracks, juggling both music and motherhood. The last 6 years I have spent writing songs while my babies nap, lingering long into the wee hours of the night trying to lay down tracks, juggling both music and motherhood. I'm just stepping out into a new season, playing shows again, writing, touring, and feeling like I'm recovering a bit of myself that was lost in the early years of becoming a mother. I’m a folk/pop/rock singer/songwriter now based in Nashville by way of the gleaming beaches and rolling hills of California’s Central Coast. I get my musical interests from a lifetime surrounded by musicians, growing up on the sounds of guitar at 3am and the stories of my parents' early music careers. (Like how the record labels changed my mother's name to "Kiki" and made her dye her hair blonde.) Music was always a legitimate career choice, encouraged by my artistic parents. I studied vocal jazz throughout my colleges years, competing in festivals, and traveling to China with choirs. My husband and I moved to Chattanooga in the early 2000s and I joined the progressive rock band "Glass Hammer" and during that time released my first full length album, "Practice Room." I've played shows throughout California and Tennessee and everywhere in between, including venues such as Hotel Cafe, 12th and Porter, The Rutledge, and of course, my favorite neighborhood coffee shop, Ugly Mugs. Last summer I released my second album, "Coming Around", followed by a successful cross-country tour. Having my 2 small daughters in tow for the summer tour was challenging at times, but mostly we just had a lot of fun. I love that that I am passing down the value that a woman can be a mom and still be herself, with her own passions, dreams and a career that she loves. My major influences include Nanci Griffith, Ben Folds, Counting Crows, Sarah McLachlan, Patty Griffin, Sheryl Crow and the Dixie Chicks. "There is much passion in Flo's voice, yet a sweet innocence resides there as well. In contrast, her lyrics seem drawn from deep wells of wisdom. Her haunting melodies are a match, and linger on in memory. Seldom does a singer / songwriter have the perfect combination of great songs and a great voice to match. Flo has the perfect combination." -Steve Babb of Glass Hammer "Practice Room met every expectation we had for Flo's debut. It is a tremendous debut album, introduction to the artist and the start of an exciting solo career." -Russ Elliot of Musical Discoveries
