Think Kate Bush meets PJ Harvey meets Gillian Welch. Flora Poste delves into the alternative spere, drawing influence from folk & roots music, with pop sensibilities. Flora Poste is the musical project of Montreal-based musician Melissa Trottier. A songwriter since childhood, an awe for art and performance led her to study theatre to hone these skills, as well as to further discover the raw honesty of human experience and expression. It was during the young artist's explorative time training as an actor at renowned George Brown Theatre School in Toronto that the concept for Flora Poste began to take root. When the need to write and fully explore the project took over, she left the theatre program and began writing music in earnest – re-working material written as early as seventeen, and uncovering new songs that reflect her more current experiences and emotions. The result is "In The Open" - a haunting, addictive collection of eleven original tracks. "In The Open" was recorded in January 2010 at a remote cottage in Quebec's Laurentian mountains, with multi-instrumentalist and co-producer Dave Carmichael. www.florapostemusic.com
