Biography

With their evocative brand of rootsy, southern-based rock ‘n’ roll, Georgia has made its name as one of the South’s most exciting new bands. Comprised of three brothers and an equally gifted (though unrelated) lead guitarist, the Atlanta-based quartet is proud to be releasing their debut album “Slow Down Easy”, produced by Mike Daly (formerly of Whiskeytown) and engineered by six time Grammy winner Joe Chicarelli (U2, White Stripes, Counting Crows). The record was mixed by Russ Fowler (John Mayer, Shawn Mullins, Stone Temple Pilots) and mastered by Hank Williams (Alan Jackson, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift). Though all its members were born and raised below the Mason-Dixon Line, none of the band hails initially from the Peach State. Rather, the moniker is an affectionate tribute to their adopted musical home. The Mitchell brothers grew up in Chiefland, a small town just 45 minutes outside of Gainesville, Florida. Music was a huge part of their lives from the start, singing in the church where their dad served as Pastor. As they hit their teens, the brothers fell in thrall to such acts as Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles, and of course, the patron saints of Gainesville rock ‘n’ roll, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Upon his graduation from Baylor University, Jeremy moved to Atlanta to pursue a career in music. Through his sister Aslyn – a recording artist in her own right – he was introduced to a Greenville, South Carolina rock band featuring lead guitarist, David “Swifty” Swift. The musicians formed a fast friendship and upon the band’s demise they paired up in the first version of what would become Georgia. After two years, Swifty and Jeremy felt reorganization was in order, so Jeremy reached out to his two musically inclined brothers – Jon, who had recently arrived in Atlanta to embark on his own songwriting career, and Jordan, then attending Liberty University on a full golf scholarship. The youngest Mitchell brother decided to put his clubs aside and leave school to join his brothers’ band as lead vocalist. It became clear that the band needed to get music out to their fans. Georgia rented a small cabin in the Blue Ridge Mountains, just outside of Atlanta. Accompanied by engineer James Salter, the band brought in basic recording equipment and began work on their ep, “CABIN SESSIONS,” resulting in a timeless feel reminiscent of their greatest inspiration, The Band. Like that legendary combo’s work, songs like “Texas” and “Lazy Weather” are populated with intriguing, complex characterizations and sincere, insightful storytelling. Georgia’s approach has built a strong local following, while also spreading the love outwards into America via tours and shows alongside such like-minded artists as the Zac Brown Band, Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Angie Aparo, and Ed Roland of Collective Soul. They have also toured extensively with Need To Breathe, Ryan Bingham, and Roger Clyne and The Peacemakers. Check out their latest work, “Slow Down Easy.”
