Biography

Global Chilling released their first CD – Climbing the Tower of Babel - in June of 2008. Their music is chilled out, almost trip-hop, world fusion. Guitarist Glenn Dixon is a documentary film-maker and his sound samples, from Bedouin drummers in the ruins of Petra to the birdcalls in the rainforests of the Amazon, weave their way through many of the songs. To their great surprise, one of the songs, “The Dalai Lama Whispers” got them an email from the office of the Dalai Lama himself. And, he liked it! A video clip of recent footage shot in Tibet (with the song as a soundtrack) is all over Youtube. “Some Say (life is beautiful),” the first track on the CD, is perhaps the standout. It’s downtempo beats underscore vocals sounding something like a very young Peter Gabriel. “Scattering the Sun” is a long trip-hop instrumental while “Gamelon” is a pretty little ambient piece built around a melody from Bali. “All Our Words Gone” is a song about lost languages – including a chant at the beginning from a language that is now spoken by less than a few dozen people in Northern Canada. It’s chillout with a conscience. The boys in the band are Glenn Dixon (from Calgary) on guitars and vocals, Andrew Johns (from Vancouver) on all sorts of keyboards and electronica, and the mysterious and sometimes completely fictional drummer, Akoda U Tse. The music is available on itunes, Amazon.com and on Myspace at http://www.myspace.com/globalchilling
