Get Over It "An acoustic record for those who like a little metal and rock in their pop" (Toronto, Ontario) – Together, Monica Julie and Jennifer Bryan who comprise pop-rock acoustic duo Hayley Stark, are just a little over 10 feet tall. You’d never know it from watching them perform their hook-infused acoustic rock tunes on stage. And their debut 6-song EP, “Get Over It”, featuring mainly harmonized acoustic guitars and vocals, certainly fills up a room with a larger-than-life sound. After a year of performing in intimate bars and cafes, and at everything from theatre receptions to fashion shows in Toronto, Hayley Stark is pleased to present a collection of songs that will make you think, dare you to cry, and give you a sharp slap on the ass. The powerful “Let Me Go (Tonight)” features musical hints of hard rock and metal and takes from their experience as both artists and 9 to 5ers. The catchy “I’d Still Pick You Up” is an ode to those special someones, a Cyndi Lauper’s “Time After Time” for the 2000s, and has a video filmed in the streets of Toronto. Along the way you’ll hear both chugging and lyrical cello on “One Good Reason” and the horror movie-like theme of “Hard Candy”, the closing song on the EP. And you’ll hear harmonies, both vocal and guitar. Lots of ‘em. Hayley Stark’s musical influences include artists like Tegan and Sara, City and Colour and even Elliot Smith and Jack Johnson. But there is no denying that the girls have listened to more than their fair share of Coheed & Cambria, Veruca Salt and My Chemical Romance. 2010 finds the girls working on an electrified EP, shooting their second video and getting into trouble as usual. Artist Bios Jennifer Bryan When she’s not working with Hayley Stark, singer and jazz-trained guitarist Jennifer Bryan is a roaring girl in every sense of the phrase. Borrowing from her experience as lead guitar phenom in a host of hard rock bands, you can catch her lending her skills to Toronto-based band The Roaring Girl Cabaret, most recently featured in the 2009 Canwest Cabaret Festival. Monica Julie Far from a one-string wonder, Monica Julie is well known for her multi-faceted musical expertise. While she excels as a guitarist, bassist and vocalist, she also captivated crowds as a technical and hard-hitting metal drummer in the bands Spankdriven, Bound Ether and In the Wake. Hayley Stark is thankful for the support of the Ontario Arts Council.
