About Henry Bliss & The Sidewalkers
Henry Bliss was born in Brussels and started as a singer and songwriter in 1998. After many different Pop-Rock band experiences, he decided to launch this project in 2005 and to carry on in a professional way. "Lovely Pretty Day" has been written like an author writes his own life. More than an album, it is the result of a need to "create in order to soothe". It is the opportunity to find a balance in life and to turn a crumpled page. Finally, it is a questioning on the meaning of his life.
"I chose an artist's name and an album's name that must express an emotional affinity with my inner self, with my songs and compositions. My songs express mostly bad feelings, escape or misunderstanding. On the other hand, "Lovely Pretty Day" has a positive connotation, and my artist's name "Bliss" means beatitude, serenity or happiness. I truly believe that the concept of duality moving through all the songs of this album represents an important aspect of the basic human condition! Because this is what I am and maybe what we all are: two personalities in one body! The one we have to be if we want to live and the one we really are: fragile people dreaming of something more, or just something else? Basically, the last one is in most cases the one we have to avoid being, considering "this" capitalistic environment, considering everything that was given to us and that may be unchangeable for most of us, and above all considering our small little world: a dehumanizing system? By using and being "Henry Bliss", I've made the choice to change the way I usually feel, I'm appropriating my longing for calm as expressed in many of my songs, I'm appropriating some happiness !
Henry Bliss has been performing for over two years with "The Sidewalkers" (Olivier Van Steirtegem: guitars, piano, backing vocals; Cédric De Meersman: bass, backing vocals, Mounir Kadjaj: drums, backing vocals). Crucial information concerning them: they started to play music together approximately in 1998. At the time Cedric was a pipe seller in Moldavia and was into the import of custom handmade steering wheels for trucks. He met Mounir and Olivier during a border control in south Kerala. Mounir and Olivier were escaping from Chechnya and looking for new challenging opportunities. Music came as a side choice since the first wanted to launch a sugar business in north Ecuador. They finally settled in Brussels and became the "Sidewalkers"… Crazy, isn’t it? J
"Henry Bliss & The Sidewalkers" are also working with a whole bunch of people who believe in and work on this growing project.
