SamSara is an Canadian alternative rock band formed in Montreal, Quebec in 1996. The band's original line-up featured lead singer Todd Andrew Pronovost, guitarist Jean-Francois Macé, bassist Francis Roy and percussionist Danny Figueredo. After breaking up in 1998, SamSara reunited in 2010, with Roy declining to participate after the reunion concert at Pirhana Bar on Ste-Catherine's street.  SamSara was one of the bands that participated in giving a reputation to Montreal's "The Plateau" artistic culture of the late 90's.  Formation and SamSara (1996–1998)  SamSara formed out of the remains of guitarist Jean Francois Macé's previous band, The Souls. In mid-1996, Macé was searching for a new vocalist for the faltering The Souls and put an ad in the local community paper when he was contacted by Todd Andrew Pronovost. Pronovost (born 09 November 1970) is an Canadian singer-songwriter and left-wing activist. His music blends elements of folk music, punk rock and protest songs, and his lyrics mostly deal with political, social or romantic themes. Macé and Pronovost bonded over a mutual appreciation for Joy Division and New Model Army and began to practice together with the ex members of the souls at La Cité 2000 close to the Molson Brewery on the side of the St-Laurent River. The new band was dubbed "Samsara" . In 1997 Francis Roy left the band. In its early incarnation, SamSara went through two bass players and featured Stéphane Mallette on bass in 1997-98.  SamSara played regularily in 1997-98 on the Plateau Mont-Royal club scene, primarily at Jailhouse Rock on Mont-Royal.
