Jasmin Bain also known as “Lady Shakespeare” is an incredible ball of talent who made her entrance in the world October 16, 1990. Originally from Baltimore growing up in the 90’s she found an interest in Hip-Hop listening to legends such as Tupac, Notorious B.I.G, Slick Rick, Big Pun, Left Eye, Common, Jay-Z, Monie Love, Queen Latifah, Wiz Khalifa, Method Man, and Eminem. It was at the age of eight that she discoverd that poetry could be her escape from the harsh reality she was place in. This was her way to deal with any problem from the the pain of her grandmother passing to being bullied in school. Everything she felt pleasure or pain would be written in her pink Lion King diary.
Crack cocaine just like so many has also effect Lady Shakespeare’s life. Her step father a man her mother fell in love with & married was a crack addict. For years he hid his addiction until it finally came out in the open. When he started stealing her instruments & video games selling them to buy more drugs. But it all came an end one night when he couldn’t get money out of her mom to buy more drugs. He locked Lady Shakespeare outside & brutally beat her mother until she was unconscious then escaped out the back door. Lady Shakespeare frantically call police where they finally caught him a week later. Her mother was beaten so severely she remained in they hospital for months after the attack. During that time she lived with her aunt while her mother recovered.
It was at the age of ten that she decide to make a crossover from poetry to rap. Even though she never took it seriously she continued to write constantly filling notebook after notebook. In 2006 she reunited with her mother made a move from Baltimore Maryland to York Pennsylvania. Not long after move the place which she called home was burned down by an unsupervised mentally challenged woman trying to commit suicide. It was late at night there was a stench of something burning. She went to her mother trying to wake her sayin “we need to get out!” Her mother still half asleep after a long day of work just wanted to be left alone. It was then knowing they urgency of the situation she took it upon herself to slap her mother. Waking her fully so they escape the flame engulfed home. Stuck at the backdoor not able to open the lock Lady Shakespeare grabbed a dining room chair & threw it through the sliding door. Quickly ran outside with her mother close behind. More worried about the life of her mother & herself she left a shoebox fully of lyrics behind.
Not to be discourge close to suicide feeling she lost everything Lady Shakespeare started over. This time broadcasting her talents rapping at lunch tables in high school & performing in talents shows. Years of hard work is now paying off being a well requested artist in the York area. Performing in show promoted by Smash Entertainment Live, Xclusive ENT, Triple T. ENT. Lady Shakespeare has became a member of Childhood Alumni October 16, 2011.
