Born of a musically talented Scottish father and Polish mother, Jane McEachin grew up in Michigan in a family who were immersed in a wide variety of music genres. Her father was a bagpiper in a Scottish bagpipe marching band who also played jigs and reels on the fiddle. At family gatherings, she enjoyed listening to her father play polkas and waltzes on accordion for her mother. Jane was the second youngest of eight sisters and brothers, each of whom had the benefits of parentally-required piano lessons. By listening daily to her brothers and sisters play, she quickly learned by ear the familiar strains of classical music pieces from the John Thompson series. Her musical interest further blossomed when she entered high school, where she found that she could release emotions that were theretofore difficult to express in her rather conservative family and community. Jane prefers to learn tunes by ear, but has the discipline to study sheet music and lead sheets so that she can make musical pieces her own.
For fun, Jane enjoys listening to and performing a variety of music from classical to pop rock. She enjoys listening to “Prairie Home Companion” where she stays up to date on Lake Woebegone happenings and learns how folks are handling the current bake sale at church and who is inviting whom for the Holidays. She enjoys Irish Celtic music and instrumental music like Mannheim Steamrollers, George Winston, and Tom Howard. She is a devotee of Blues, country, soft rock, and light alternative genres. But her greatest passion is creating or listening to lyrics that parody aspects of society. She enjoys creating new truthful, insightful, yet highly comical lyrics to preexisting songs, and has performed some of her musical creations in mid-Michigan. As Jane puts it, “I truly believe humor in a healthy dose can help you survive the rough stuff. I like to write songs about becoming empowered so you can get out of the trap you believe that you are stuck in.”
Jane has performed vocally and on keyboard in the mid-Michigan area for church fund raisers, in community parks, and at nursing homes. She shares her music with others at a local recovery center. In addition to her keyboard skills, Jane plays various instruments including steel drums, alto sax, baritone sax, chanter, Irish penny whistle, and various rhythm instruments. For her own amusement, Jane has played alto sax at bi-monthly jams at a local senior center where the mostly elderly musicians typically old country and western music, as well as waltzes and polkas.
When fans may ask, "What are Jane's current musical plans?" she replies,
“I intend to keep writing music and to perfect my vocal skills, to get involved with local community plays and to be involved in other creative activities that is musically related.”
