Cathedral organist leaves the churchIN MY PARENT'S LIVING ROOM was a big wooden box with black & white things on it that was beckoning me to touch it. It was very hard to climb up on its table. It was very slippery and I had nothing to hold on to. Once I got up, I started playing with it. This thing was my mom's Hammond B3. Thank you Mom & Dad for realizing I had an interest in the keyboard. Soon after, my music lessons began. THE WONDER YEARS (as in I wonder how we did it)I was studying piano and classical organ with my music teacher Mr. Charles Boehm, eventually becoming his assistant organist at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hicksville, NY. During my sophomore year I auditioned for Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ. I was accepted. Behind every successful child are very dedicated parents....HOUSTON WE HAVE A PROBLEMWell, one semester at Westminster and I realized I didn't want to be 'Church Lady'. So I packed it up and came home. I freaked out. I was really lost and couldn't figure out what I was going to be when I grew up. I felt like a total failure at 19. Anxiety Attack, Nervous Breakdown?! Where was the Xanax when I needed it?BRIGHT LIGHTS BIG CITYA year later, I moved to New York City. A colleague of mine felt that I was paying too much rent and suggested I file a complaint to the DHCR (District of Housing and Community Renewal). I won and received $2000 in back pay from my landlord. With the refunded rent $$$ I went out and bought a synth. That was the beginning of my re-entry into the music world. I started building a recording studio in my apartment. I never thought I'd be a recording engineer and producer per se, but I learned out of sheer necessity.BIG NIGHT OUTWhile managing a restaurant at night, I did my writing and recording during the day. During this time I became friendly with a customer who was a songwriter-producer. One night after work, he invited me to come upstairs and meet some people he was working with. Unfortunately, I was too chicken to go, and missed out on a chance of a lifetime. The person he was working with was Desmond Child!! LOST IN SPACEThe Plaedians kidnapped me! I forgot who I was (amnesia?) and my music. I grew weak and my life force was sucked out of me. They coerced me to go to FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) for pattern making.........BACK TO THE FUTURESome light years later I am returned to my body and my consciousness is restored.CAN'T STOP THE MUSIC After picking up where I left off before I was abducted, I returned and rebuilt my studio; making it bigger, better, faster and deep space blue. Working with a friend, we sculpted the electro pop/rock sound of my debut CD Janice Grace.Janice Grace was released in March 2000, on JAGUAR Records. Off to a swift start, the eight-song CD earned Artist-of-the-Week honors on BillboardTalentNet for two weeks in a row. The single subsequently reached #1 on Radio BTN, based on site-visitor voting, and the album's first single, The Only One, hit #5 on NewMusicWeekly's -Next Up Chart and Mainstream Radio.com's New Hit List. The video hit #4 on CVC's club charts. You can see the video at JaniceGrace.com.My second single, “No Work All Play” released on August 21, 2001. "No work all play, I just wanna hang out in the sun all day...." On September 26, 2001 it reached # 4 on NewMusicWeekly's Next Up Chart. Who wanted to party after 911?MEMOIRS OF A GEISHAMarch 21, 2006 "Geisha Girl" Dance Remixes by Tracy Young, Allan Jeffrey and Richard Grey is released. The DJs are spinning it and the record stores are calling for more!! I loved the book so much I wrote a song inspired by it. Geisha are not hookers; they are artisans. They have honed their skills of dance, music, flattery and conversation to perfection. This is what I want to portray in this song: artisans honing their skills.TUNE IN, TURN ON“Frequency” Released November 2007. It all started with the episode on Oprah with ‘The Secret’ and the law of attraction. I immediately went to Amazon and bought books on the subject. I love reading self-help books, cause I need all the help I can get! I’m waiting to see if it works… If you see me on Oprah, go and buy “The Secret”!IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFEStay tuned for more music!
