Jay Arie was born Johnathan Forbes on November 2nd 1989 in Nassau, Bahamas. He used to see music as a hobby that he also had a real passion for until he got a link with producer Mr Lynx. The producer recognized the young artiste’s talent and decided to work with Jay. When Jay was ready to take his career seriously he decided on the name Jay Arie after his favourite female singer, India Arie, especially after he found out “Arie” meant “lion of God”. Jay Arie considers himself to be a humble, wise and easy going person who maybe is a bit too friendly at times, but he says that is just who he is. What makes Jay Arie stand out is that he is not trying to imitate anyone. He is always himself in attitude, style, dress and personality. Jay Arie is a reggae artiste and he is mainly inspired by artistes such as Monty G, Buju Banton and Anthony B and he says people often tell him he sounds too much like Monty G. In terms of his music Jay Arie says reggae is the music to “uplift my people”. He calls his music “Da Real Righteousness”. Jay Arie, a Christian who strongly believes in God’s guidance has signed to Zion I Records under Infinity Distribution, which is the largest independent Gospel distribution label worldwide. So far Jay Arie has recorded and released the singles “Speechless” and “Love Like Dis” and he is currently working on building his career and his catalogue of music. The young reggae artiste wants for his music to reach the masses, spread his message of righteousness and make an impact on the international airwaves. Jay says “I come to make a change. There are youths out there who want and need this positive message.” Jay is soon getting started spreading his music as he will tour parts of the Caribbean this year. Alongside Mr Lynx he will perform in Turks & Caicos, Guyana as well as Trinidad and Tobago.
