Jeff and Maya’s unique blend of synthesized textures and modern instrumentation makes for fascinating emotionally intelligent, ethereal rock that has brought them across the globe and back. They are currently performing to support their latest release, the well-received Mobius Street. The pair first began creating music together when Maya’s folk band was exploring a hard rock direction. Jeff was tapped for the role and became a constant fixture in the group as it underwent several line-up changes. Six years later, Jeff and Maya embarked on what would become an illustrious, enduring career as a duo. Blessed with both a strong voice and a nurturing environment in which to develop it, Maya received vocal training from her mother, an acclaimed radio singer, at a very early age. Later, her formal vocal coach forced a teenaged Maya to make the choice between a promising career in opera and the folk band she had recently formed. Some thirty years later, Jeff and Maya fans can be thankful she chose the latter. Jeff and Maya draw inspiration from a diverse range of influences – everyone from Led Zeppelin and Peter Gabriel to the Bee Gees and Elton John. Though based in San Jose today, Jeff and Maya have lived and performed in many areas of the world; Morocco, the United States (Nebraska, California, Boston), Guam, and Germany. Their experiences in different cultures and Baha’i spiritual beliefs contribute to the depth and richness of their music. Being a professional producer, Jeff composes and produces and engineers much of the music himself along with music for other artists. Although Jeff and Maya’s style has evolved over the years to reflect their personal experiences, what has remained constant is their emphasis on creating interesting and original music. 2008’s Mobius Street was a departure from their previous album, Manhattan Sleeps, which featured a more intimate tone. In contrast, Mobius Street is a blend of uplifting acoustic, electric, and electronic elements, decorated with thoughtful, emotional lyrics and performances with warm, deep arrangements. Though a nod to Jeff and Maya’s earlier, progressive days, the songs on Mobius Street remain thoroughly accessible and organic. Jeff and Maya continue to create exciting and innovative work to sustain the enthusiastic approval of their ever-growing audience. They keep two feet planted in their experienced, musical roots, leaving the other pair to be dipped into uncharted waters.
