Michigan’s Joseph Washington a.k.a J Money Tha Takeova is the leading up and coming artist in Hip Hop today. From the city of Lansing, to a major platform in the movement of the new school, a rocky road provides a window into the grace he experienced throughout his life--with every situation molding him into the artist and leader he is today. Joseph inherited his ambition from his parents who were entrepreneurs and also heavily involved in music. At a young age, Joseph received the name Money for his crafty ability to make every situation an opportunity to generate income. From lemonade stands to candy bar sells, Money started to gain local attention as a talented, ambitious young boy with vision. At 13-years-old, Money began rapping and songwriting in a group known as Black Diamond. Shortly after joining the group and affirming his passion for music, the artist, J Money Tha Takeova, was born. Soon after, J Money established his own studio where people from all over Lansing came to fulfill their dreams of one day making it in the music industry. The next few years included many struggles and victories before he teamed up with DJ Sycko to help elevate his music career. Pouring out a genuine discussion of life issues and using music as a way to vent, J Money released his mixtapes, Gumbo featuring R&B artist Christian Nelson and Welcome to My Reality. Listeners appreciated his unapologetic delivery of worldwide truths and transparent, relatable, and encouraging lyrics. As J Money continued to make his mark in the music industry, he realized the stage wasn’t enough. There needed to be a way to reciprocate the support and love that his fans and community showed him, so he started to volunteer locally throughout Michigan. After extending his impact, J Money Tha Takeova released his groundbreaking single “Chi Omega Girl”. The after effect of this song continues to spread nationwide, receiving thousands of YouTube hits and countless booking requests. Currently J Money is working on two upcoming projects. The mixtape entitled Motivation is expected to drop in July of this year and his new album Reality will be released before the end of 2012. Without a doubt, J Money’s passion for impacting urban culture persists.
