About Johnny Rev

Elk Grove Village, IL

Forming in the suburbs of Chicago in 2001, melodic punk rockers, Johnny Rev, have proven to be the Windy City's best kept secret. In a scene catering to light emo-core and jovial pop-rock, the four twenty-somethings have refused to turn their backs on the Epi-Fat style that has helped develop their unique blend of 90's skate punk and melodic hardcore. With influences ranging from Bad Religion and NOFX to AFI and Alkaline Trio, Johnny Rev strives to create songs that are both hard and fast without losing the melody along the way.

To indie music fans, the band appears to be on their way to bigger things with three professionally produced studio efforts as well as a trio of music videos with more production value than most clips shown on Fuse. Their video for "Instead of Me" (off 2005's Hate Me Till Morning) even earned them a spot on Havoc TV's On Demand video channel. In addition, Alternative Press Magazine also honored "The Rev" with a much sought after spot in their "AP&R Unsigned Bands of the Month" section as well as a semi-finalist position in their "Almost Famous" competition. August of 2009 marked the release of the "Kill The Lights EP" produced by Dan Precision (Much The Same, Shot Baker, Flatfoot 56), which also introduced a music video of the same name. As a way to preface their upcoming full-length (set for release in Summer 2010), the three-song EP was released as a download card and exclusively through iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody, and other online music

So, is it a surprise that the band has remained unsigned? Not really. In a city littered with elite bands and venues, it's proven difficult for the leftovers to breakthrough without the proper connections. The fact that Johnny Rev has independently created the illusion of label backing is indeed something to be proud of.
