Retro-modern Rock with Catchy Hooks Jon Mullane is an artist who pumps up an audience with driving rock tunes that make you want to move and power ballads that move you. His new album Shift – due to be released in Canada and internationally in February 2010 – contains the infectious single Sin City, which has been described as “having the balls of Billy Idol's Rebel Yell, the melodic twists of Duran Duran and the in-your-face production of The Bodyrockers.” The song, along with several others on the album, belts out a rock synth vibe that would be just as home in the 80s as it is right now. That’s the Jon Mullane retro-modern touch. It’s energetic rock with catchy hooks and a solid rock groove. The album builds upon the genre-defying diversity Jon has always brought to his music. Singer, songwriter and multi instrumentalist, Jon combines melodies with driving rock lines that find their way into sports arenas and events because of their power to inspire. Recorded in Halifax and Toronto with producer and co-writer Creighton Doane, Shift features 10 tracks, including the remixed CHR/Dance version of Jon's hit single Make You Move. Jon describes their union as “ …two 80’s boys channeling their inner synth-rock gods…!!” In 2008, Jon’s song Make you Move was picked up by NBC TV for their Summer Olympic promos. The tune brought Jon’s sound into North America in a big way. It was on the Mediabase/BDS Charts in the Hot AC and Rock formats and received extensive radio play. In 2009, Make You Move was nominated for Single of the Year at the East Coast Music Awards. In addition to Make You Move, the much-anticipated album Shift also features the pre-release singles Change your Life and Got it Goin’ On, tunes that have been embraced by radio programmers across Canada and have achieved instant chart success and extensive radio airplay. “Shift continues where my last album, The Source, left off – a shift in momentum, a shift in direction, and a shift in energy”, says Jon. In the summer of 2009, Jon and his band performed at The World Canoe ‘09 Championships Concert On the Lake to an enthusiastic audience that numbered in the thousands. Make You Move was the theme song for the event. Released through Universal Canada in 2007, Jon’s ‘renaissance debut’ The Source found success internationally as Jon had built a following in Europe and Asia. The powerpop single, Go The Distance garnered extensive radio airplay in Canada and hit the number one position on the iconic U.S. music industry publication Cashbox on their Indie Rock chart. The album also received a 4 ½ star review from the magazine.
