Knowing that she wanted to immerse herself in the alluring sounds of jazz and blues, Jordyn Jackson spent her September in the garden, specifically, the Garden District in New Orleans. Jackson’s organic and captivating vocals are showcased through her re-envisioning of ten musical standards. The jazz-infused album, fittingly titled September in the Garden, is both unique and methodically compiled. Working with a young and talented group of Louisiana musicians led by Beau St. Pierre and Jake Smith, September in the Garden was arranged and recorded in New Orleans at Better Than Ezra’s Fudge Recording Studio. And, to give it a rock edge reminiscent of her previous work, the album was mixed by Shawn Grove at Edible Studios, the private studio of Ed Roland, lead singer and songwriter of Collective Soul. While September in the Garden includes Jackson’s distinct interpretation of prevalent songs, she has been writing original music for years. In 2003, she released I Dreamt a Dream, a studio album of original songs she co-wrote with Kurt Hawthorne. Sonny Lallerstedt, a guitarist who has performed with Elton John both live as well as in the studio, contributed his characteristic style to the album. In 2004, Jackson released an eponymous album in collaboration with Lee Miles. This collection of original songs was recorded in Orlando, FL, exposing Jackson to the burgeoning Orlando music scene. Jackson worked with various musicians, contributing lyrics and melodies to their projects, as well as performing radio jingles written by Louis Pecci for national spots. After years of co-writing music for herself and other artists, Jackson visited a friend in Bordighera, Italy, where she was introduced to a promoter. Almost immediately, she found herself booked to sing at parties, clubs openings, and other events all over the Liguria region. She was also featured in magazines and newspapers as well as on radio and television. After several months, Jackson returned to the United States refreshed and inspired, and in 2006, joined Randy Winter’s band Veronica’s Veil. Jackson began touring as the lead vocalist, performing their existing songs live as well as recording their first album Middle of Nowhere. Her passion for writing was soon recognized and she began co-writing songs, which in 2009 were released on their second album Enduring Winter. However, shortly after Enduring Winter was released, Jackson departed Veronica’s Veil to pursue the solo opportunities that have resulted in September in the Garden. "September in the Garden is not just an outlet for vocal expression. It fulfills a passion I’ve had for years: the desire to record a full-length album that I can listen to with a smile on my face the entire way through. This album represents a new beginning for me." -Jordyn Jackson
