Joshua Alfred was born in Baton Rouge and raised in Welsh, Louisiana.  He started singing at his church at a very young age and always had a passion for music as a child.  He cites his mother Alice Alfred, also a great singer, as the one person who helped cultivate his love for music.  She kept him active with singing in the choir at his home church.  At the age of 10 Joshua started a rap/singing group with three of his cousins called JTSP.  His enthusiasm about music was very evident as a child, but he lacked the resources to nurture his musical desires.  He started taking piano lessons at the age of 14, but still longed for more musical conditioning.  This was short lived because Joshua was more interested in becoming a vocalist.  It was hard for him to break in to music by way of his elementary, junior high, and high school, because all music programs were dropped due to budget cuts.  Never the less, Joshua graduated with honors from Welsh High School in 2003 and enrolled in Southern University and A&M College.  While at school in Baton Rouge he majored in Computer Science.  He had more opportunities to pursue his music in college and completed his first demo recording called “Marvelous” in a friend’s home studio.   It was a small start that would open more doors later.  It wasn’t until he finished college in 2007 and was hired as a System Engineer by Lockheed Martin in the D.C. area that Joshua made a decision to pursue his music with more vigor.  He moved to the D.C. area in 2008 and almost immediately began to pursue his music.  As a result, he released his first gospel recording titled “Fighting with My Praise “in the summer of 2009.  In 2010 he was nominated for 3 Verizon How Sweet the Sound Rhythm of Gospel Awards, which is an award show recognizing rising independent gospel artist.  In addition, he became a praise and worship leader at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in Herndon, VA.  In 2011 Joshua was given the opportunity to audition for The D.C. Transit Band. It was his first successful audition.  The members of D.C. Transit saw his great potential and now he is the band’s lead male vocalist.  Joshua is a great addition to the band, and hopes to have fun and grow musically with the band.  Overall, Joshua has a passion for music that burns within him and he hopes to one day be able to pursue music on a full time scale.  Joshua realizes it takes time, dedication, practice, and prayer before more opportunities present themselves.  He is willing to take the ride on his musical journey.  With Jesus Christ as his foundation, he knows there is more to come in the future.
