The epitome of hard work and dedication, that’s how you can describe J. Storm. Hailing from South Florida, West Palm Beach to be more specific, he grew up with a father who had an eclectic music taste, exposing him to everything from Kriss Kross to Montell Jordan to House of Pain to Hootie and the Blowfish. At the age of 3 he would run around his home jumping like a maniac to the sounds of the Kriss Kross hit “Jump”. It was at this point Hip Hop began to take hold of his young mind. Fast forward to age ten, J had bought his first album, Usher’s “My Way”. However he found himself listening to track 2, “Just Like Me”, more than any other track. The song featured Lil Kim spitting some raw, gritty rhymes. This was when he decided to pen his first rhyme. Loaded with violence “Bang Bang” was written. However, his heart wasn’t in that song. He wrote according to what he thought people would like. He continued to make more gratuitous, lackluster songs based on his interpretation of what he thought others would feel. Yet, they didn’t like the music. They knew he wasn’t being himself in songs talking about killing, the amount of money he has, and the activities of fallacious women. He knew as well this wasn’t what he wanted to write about. Instead of succumbing to the norms of that Hip-Hop was he decided to write what he felt in his heart no matter the outcome of fan reception. His songs began to talk about issues more relevant to him; social problems, personal conflicts, internal struggles, and things of a more conscious nature. Now his music gave him a whole new, entirely different feeling; a feeling of completeness and being true to himself. No longer worried about what people would think of his music he began to open up and write more freely and, to his surprise, people began to accept his music. Armed with nothing but a pen and a notepad J. Storm plans to do just that – take the industry by storm. Spreading an awareness of self through his lyrics and striving to become one of the greatest to do it. “There are a lot of things greater than money in this world, true love for what you do is one of them.” - J.
