Julie Christensen, a veteran of Leonard Cohen's bands of the 1988 and 1993 tours, has made 4 of her own acclaimed soulful CDs of mostly original material in the interim, performing regularly with top musicians in Southern California. She's also been a voice-slinger for hire in the studio with the likes of Robben Ford, John Doe, Exene Cervenka, and Van Dyke Parks. Julie's planning a more stripped-down acoustic new project next, with Kenny Edwards at the producer's helm. Christensen was a featured member of the Cohen song projects produced by Hal Willner. The "Came So Far for Beauty" concerts (on which the documentary film "Leonard Cohen I'm Your Man" was partly based) had four installments over 4 years. In Dublin, Julie performed a fiery Joan of Arc with Lou Reed. On the new “Where the Fireworks Are:” "Julie Christensen has done something more than `make something pretty' with this album. She has made something beautiful. Not the light beauty of surfaces and smiles and flowers and noon, but the dark beauty of depth, heart, grief and longing. If her dreams about a world without war flash through her mind (as she confesses) like meteors, we should be glad that this one hit ground and made a sound for the rest of us.
