Musical Idioms/Classification:Dirty/Off-Kilter/Pop Art-RockBriefing/BIO:Friends since awkward preadolescence and band mates since 2003,Jumbling Towers have poured years of experimentation into their 2007self-titled debut release, a carefully crafted, oft-reworked patchwork of individual creativity. While certain moments mirror the chaotic bombast of Faust and The Fall, and others echo the minimalism of Spoon and Brian Eno's "Another Green World", the band's debut record often channels both extremes into a distinctive brand of dirty, off-kilter pop-art rock, characterized by careful layering and a hypnotic interplay between individual riffs and hooks. After re-writing parts, toiling in the studio and experimenting withdifferent production techniques, songwriters Joe DeBoer and Kyle McConaghy have begun to master the complicated layering of simple riffs, and the band's keyboard, guitar and vocal tones are unmistakable. DeBoer's quirky vocals, Rhodes piano tones and fuzzy guitar licks mesh perfectly with McConaghy's droning organ, unique settings and rigid telecaster clips, and when combined with Nate Drexler's melodic bass lines and Scott Ingram's aggressive yet restrained drumming, the result is a debut release that proudlyannounces the cohesion of four unique musical personalities and invokesthe band's biggest influences: The Pixies, the Beatles, David Bowie, TheDeftones and The Talking Heads. The band's debut effort has earned immediate recognition, enjoying significant airplay nationwide and peaking at #99 on the CMJ New Music Report charts. At the time the band hit #99, they were the highest ranked unsigned artist on the CMJ charts.Jumbling Towers have shared the stage with several prominent indie rockartists and in 2007, the band booked appearances at the CMJ MusicMarathon in New York City and the Pygmalion Music Festival in Champaign,Illinois.
