The Beginning J’Wan Yvette began singing at the age of 3 and writing songs and poetry by the age of 5. Growing up, she enjoyed singing in her elementary school chorus and by her teens she formed an R&B group called Diamond is Forever. During her teens she enjoyed performing with her group as well as developing her talent with the Craig Memorial Community Church Youth Chorale. After a move, J’Wan went on to perform with notable all-girl bands Genuine and Royalty. But she didn’t stray from her gospel roots, and became a part of the Abyssinia Baptist Church’s Davis Choral Ensemble. When J’Wan had her daughter in February of 2000, she took a break from the music industry. Not happy with the regular 9 to 5 scene she returned to the music industry in 2004, forming an independent label called JYMstone Entertainment. The Present J’Wan released two CD’s – The Official R&B Mixtape and What Could It Be – The EP. Her singles “What Could It Be”, “Catch 22”, and “Next to Me” have been aired on nearly 500 radio stations nationwide as well as internet radio. She has worked with the production team of BASSHEADS, a duo based in her home of Prince George’s County, Maryland. Her style has caught the attention of producers from New York to Atlanta, including multi-talented writer/producer Cisum Golden. J’Wan has performed in several showcases for On-Point Entertainment and has headlined at the historic Bohemian Caverns (which was once owned by the legendary Cab Calloway and hosted such talent as Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughan). J’Wan has also published two books – a poetry book called Words of Love and Life: An Emotional Journey, and a short novel called Invisible. The Future On July 30, 2010, J’Wan will release a "The Official R&B Mixtape, Vol. 2" and she is also writing and recording songs for a new album to be released in 2011.
