Kala Farnham is a folk-rock singer/songwriter based in Pomfret, Connecticut. She draws inspiration from a broad range of musical genres. She studied classical piano since the age of 5, including a year of intense classical training at Furman University in South Carolina. Throughout high school and college she has also explored music technology, composition, jazz voice and piano, classical voice, and a cappella music. She has performed in and accompanied musical theater for several years. Kala began writing her own music at the age of 12 and has been writing steadily since. Her eclectic background in music makes it difficult to categorize her original music, but it is characterized by elements of folk rock, pop, and an occasional touch of jazz. A little girl with a powerful, emotional voice sings about life's struggles from a fresh new perspective, backed up by skillful and passionate piano work. Her song "Eight Months" was voted the number 2 Alternative song on the IAC Picks list by the Independent Artist Company, a website based in California and created to support independent artists. "Eight Months" also reached number 12 on on the KIAC Radio Alternative Chart. Kala's song "Beat" was voted #1 in the May 2007 Electronic Music category on Ourstage.com. Kala was recently declared Best New Artist of 2009 by Paul Rosano on thetrickismusic.com. In 2008 she released a home-studio demo titled "Raincloud", followed by a live album recorded over summer 2009 titled "Naked Honest". Both albums are available via kalafarnham.com, itunes, and cdbaby. Kala has booked such prestigious venues as The Bushnell, Six Flags New England, and Mohegan Sun Casino.
