BIOGRAPHY FOR KALEIGH JO KIRK The immense musical talent of Kaleigh Jo Kirk was vividly displayed at her first public singing appearance, at just seven years old. Since then, she has won faithful fans by performing in a wide variety of styles at venues ranging from La Boheme (Hollywood, CA) to The Calgary Stampede (known as one of the world’s biggest outdoor shows) and the star-studded Big Valley Jamboree (Camrose, Alberta) Kaleigh Jo has not taken her natural gifts for granted, and has worked diligently on studying every aspect of her craft, including voice, piano, guitar, acting, stage performance, dancing, musical theatre & song writing. She has taken voice and piano lessons since the age of 5, moving onto guitar lessons at age 10, and she is now playing both drums in her school jazz band and percussion and flute in her school concert group. She was the only Canadian accepted for a scholarship to attend Deborah Gibson’s Camp Electric Youth, held at the renowned Howard Fine Studio in Hollywood. This is an intensive two-week program involving training in songwriting, vocal performance, acting and dance. Gibson was a major teen pop star in the ‘80s (as Debbie Gibson), and is now recognized as one of the best educators in the business. Kaleigh Jo has already gained invaluable experience in songwriting and recording, and the fruits of her labor will soon be dramatically showcased on her upcoming official debut CD, Keep On Climbing. Her first demo CD was recorded in March 2008, produced by Sazacha Red Sky aka Nancy Nash. It featured a song she co-wrote, “Kaleigh Jo Kirkin' Around,” a fun autobiographical tune about accepting and celebrating who you are. Over the next year, Kaleigh Jo wrote the melody and lyrics for three new songs, “My Smile,” “Beautiful” and “Cry.” Written after her own experience of being bullied, “My Smile” was adopted for use during National Anti-Bullying Week. These songs were recorded in Burbank, CA, with a powerhouse production and mixing team of Deborah Gibson, Gavin Mackillop (Toad The Wet Sprocket, Midnight Oil) and Rudy Haeusermann (Celine Dion, Tina Turner), and will be included on Keep On Climbing. July 2009 found Kaleigh Jo returning to Burbank, this time connecting with Grammy nominated producer/songwriter Alex Cantrall. They recorded “Shine,” a song they had co-written with Jeff Hoeppner. An upbeat positive pop song that has been earning rave reviews, it will be featured on the new album. . Next up were L.A. sessions with another top producer, Mike Puskas, and these resulted in the bulk of the material set to appear on Keep On Climbing. Kaleigh Jo recently also recorded two songs in French, with producer/writer Gerry Stober. She is fluent in the language, and these tracks, “Plus Fort Que Tout” and “Ne T’en Veux Pas,” will be released as singles in late spring of 2010. Kaleigh Jo’s love and passion for singing runs deep. “Singing is a second way of expressing how you feel,” she explains. “You can show so many different emotions in one line or one lyric.” She is also committed to communicating a positive message with her music, helping kids fit in and feel good about themselves. Her pure and strong voice shines on both haunting ballads like “Dream” and “Stronger Now” and such upbeat pop-rock tunes as “Shine” and “Keep On Climbing.” She also takes pride in her blossoming skill as a songwriter and the fact that she co-wrote five of the songs (including the inspirational title track) that will be on Keep On Climbing. Another accomplishment in 2009 was Kaleigh Jo’s first runner-up finish in the finals of Calgary’s Jr. Idol contest. She recently landed the lead role of Mayzie for the Major Musical Theatre Production of Suessical: The Musical, set for a run in March 2010. Kaleigh Jo also takes pleasure in volunteering to entertain at fundraising events as well as singing the Canadian National Anthem at hockey games. Her bilingual and acapella rendition of the anthem at a recent NHL Alumni/Cochrane Generals game brought the house down. With the release of Keep On Climbing, 2010 promises to be a milestone year for Kaleigh Jo Kirk. This is an album destined to introduce the pop world to the limitless potential of a vibrant young artist.
