Kali loves where he is from -- loves where he's at, known to many as Orange County's premier rapper, reality personality, and ladies' man.
The towering MC born and raised on the bitter end of both coasts craved out his path and defined his own success on the microphone. He made a name for himself by ousting tattered rappers in battle spheres and ripping the mixtape circuit with his barbed freestyles. He started with an appearance on DJ Big Mike's "The Power Move" his lead single Rule the Nation took the east coast by storm. The elicit buzz was well received.
First I got with Big Mike and DJ Ill Will, J.R. Writer then Dip Set reached out to me, all of sudden I was opening up for Dj Premier, D-Block, Diplomats, G-Unit, Roca-Fella," said the rapper.
Quite honestly, Kali ascension onto concert stages was a detour from the road he was paving for himself. You see he spent his youth running the streets, dipping in and out of corners and patrolling blocks few would venture. Kali said, "Not too many people can move like that, but I was never fazed my concerns have always been about supporting my family and getting money wherever it may be."
It just so happens that his street endeavors lead him to work on music, "At my worse, I was literally hustling anything I could find, but people just kept coming wanting something more, rappers were constantly blowing up my cell phone for collaborations, managers buzzing in my ear to sign deals, fans would approach me on the block just to thank me, and apparently everyone wanted to hear the next street banger, So I Delivered."
After releasing a string of hit records, the rapper caught the attention of Statik Selektah, who recently produced his lead single Cali Kali a club track that gives nods to classic New York rap and West Coast Hip Hop. "If you listen to the record, you'll feel good about Hip Hop again."
"Kali's really gonna bring West Coast Hip Hop back, he's got that raw talent and a hell of range, hard to find these days," commented Selektah.
The public has to keep up with Kali, as he shows no signs of slowing down. In addition to gearing up for the Kali State of Mind mixtape schedule to drop early March, Rockstar Games will be releasing his new single Rollin featuring Glasses Malone, and Terminolgoy on the Midnight Club video game racing series. Myspace TV is broadcasting live his episodic series Life of the Party and the rapper was recently featured in the OC Weekly magazine for his innovative version of Techno Rap. Showcases are underway in New England, New York, Philadelphia, Florida, Los Angeles, San Diego, Fresno, Oakland, and the Bay Area.
