In August 2003, Aurélie Dupont, vocalist and pianist, left Belgium after she had finished her classical education at the Conservatory and went to live in Marseille. She imported her compositions in the new country, rather Pop Rock at first, however with already dark and melancholy melodies. In September 2003, she met several musicians coming from a Rock education, one of whom was Olivier Tijoux, a drummer who will soon bring new colours in the arrangements as well as new texts in the pieces, however he was finishing his education at Serge Puchol's drums school. So the band 'Toadstool' was created, but the vocalist's Gothic influences became established more and more and the band splitted up in April 2005. Therefore Aurelie and Olivier decided to put a new project on, which began in October 2005. First they worked together to extend the repertoire before searching other musicians. In April 2006, Patrice Boulesteix, bassist, saw the project on a website and joined the group. His Jazz education brought it new influences. Then the trio looked for a cellist to complete the formation, so as to give an original acoustic tone, but unsuccessfully. In September 2006, they met Cédric Denis, a guitarist with a large knowledge in Metal who will be the final touch. 'Kalyst' recorded its first demo in November 2007 and differs by the diversity of the influences and cultures brought together in only one concept: the Gothic Music.
