Kat Craig is not your typical self-promoted singer on YouTube. She is talented without being showy. She is humble yet quietly confident. She has star presence without exuding star arrogance. Above all, Kat can sing from any song book whether jazz, pop, blues, rock or adult contemporary. Her artistic versatility is rooted in life experience. In many ways she remains a small town girl from Pittsfield, Massachusetts who fell in love with the stage singing the National Anthem before one of the town’s minor league baseball games. This modest taste of what could be, should be led her into high school musical theater and later a classical music education at CW Post. While it gave her necessary vocal control, her university experience left her wanting to create a singular sound, one that would take advantage of her smooth, jazz infused voice. In 2006, Kathy wrote and recorded her first single “Coffeehouse Girl”, which was inspired by her experience on the open mic circuit. Though simple on the surface, “Coffeehouse Girl” has resonated with many struggling singers and musicians whose idealistic love of music conflicts with the often harsh realities of the industry. Kathy’s reserved yet emotive tone is reminiscent of Lisa Loeb and Kelly Clarkson. After taking some time away from music, Kat felt the familiar pull of the microphone setting up a studio in her apartment, which enabled her to broadcast performances on YouTube. Within 6 months of registering she already has over 1,000 subscribers and many of her videos have appeared on the “most discussed” and “most rated” lists. Kat is hard at work in her studio laying down several tracks for her up coming EP including “Empty”, a pop ballad showcasing her unique range, emotional sensitivity and dynamic voice. By all accounts, her career is full of promise.
