“Katey reminds you of all the things you forgot…pure of heart, pure of art.” -Zack Werner, (Producer, Songwriter, Canadian Idol Judge) Katey Morley’s music follows few rules, weaving together singable yet unexpected melodies, and effortlessly fusing her lifelong loves of country, jazz, folk and pop music. Self-taught composer and eclectic multi-instrumentalist, Katey plays dulcimer, autoharp, piano and percussion, but it is her voice that captivates listeners and has earned her a loyal following. Soft and vulnerable for a moment, and then suddenly unleashed, it is a powerfully dynamic instrument, drawing comparisons to the likes of Linda Ronstadt, Sia, and K.D. Lang. Her forthcoming EP NOW (Aug, 2016) is a collection of new songs, all of which swell from deep sources. Katey is a storyteller, and her words, borne of experience and rooted in reflection, invite the listener to see as well as hear. Produced by Tom McKay (Joydrop, Sate, Nightcrawlers), NOW features the talents of some of Canada’s finest musicians: Greg Keyes (Neverest, Lindsay Broughton), Bret Higgins (Great Lake Swimmers, Serena Ryder), Steve York (Mercy Flight, The Pinch), Jodeye Brummell (Towers, Bella Clava), Louis Simao (Nelly Furtado, Mary Margaret O’Hara, Michael Occipinti) and many more. NOW will be released in August 2016, with the first single “Didn’t You” being released on August 22, 2016. A companion collection called “Then” will be release on Sept 10, 2016, featuring 5 unreleased songs, including the classic “Noah” and the love song for Toronto, “Big Smoke”. [MORE] Katey began singing and playing at a very young age. As a teen, she studied for 3 years with acclaimed vocal teacher Elaine Overholt (Francisco Yates, Queen Latifah and many more). Soon after, she left Jazz studies at York University to front the band Gypsy Soul (Resort/Universal Records), toured North America with Minneapolis folk-rockers Bobby Llama, and returned home to record her first solo album, Phor. Over the last decade, she has been producing and recording original songs, while supporting herself as a world-touring club DJ and session singer. With Duncan Coutts (Our Lady Peace) and producer Scott Currie (Emily Haines), she recorded the award winning “Noah” (Great American Song Contest), capturing the attention of the legendary Garth Hudson of The Band, who travelled to Toronto to perform organ and accordion on four of Katey’s original songs.
