About Kelli Rich
Kelli Rich is a vocalist of astonishing range jumping from jazz to soul, to funk, to scat. Rich is experienced in all facets of the performing arts. She is a graduate of Columbia College, singer, songwriter and producer. The songs that Kelli writes are from her own experiences, and her jazzy vocals are inspired by jazz greats Dinah Washington and Billie Holiday.
Back in the late 80's Kelli was singing jazzy vocals to R&B tracks, but the record industry was not open to that yet. "They would always say I had too much vibrato, sounds too jazzy, can you give me more air", Kelli laughs. "Now, more power to singers like Erykah Badu & Jill Scott for breaking the barrier."
Not only is Rich a versatile singer, but she is also the founder of "Some Like It Black" an afro-centric bohemian club known for it's diverse audience and culture. She has hosted many greats there such greats as Wynton Marsalis, Roy Hargrove, & Oscar Brown Jr.. Also Ourstage's own Nikki Lynette would performed there on a regular basis with the group "Poetree".
In the future Kelli Rich will continue to write and sing good music. "Long live culture".
