About Keristan Vaughan
Keristan Vaughan is a singer who performs Jazz, Latin and some of her original songs. Sing/songwriter Keristan Vaughan was born and raised in the small town of Brooks, Alberta. From her earliest days she sang for entertainment and self enjoyment whether it was in local singing contests or in church on Sunday mornings. Music lessons began at a early age and cultimated into a diploma in Music Performance at Grant MacEwan College. Through playing the alto saxophone and performing vocally in the high school stage band Keristan discovered her love of jazz. She has been studying and performing the style for the last couple of years and loving it. Keristan has been told that she projects an old Jazz style similar to that of Billy Holiday but with her own unique twist.
Keristan finished her second year at MacEwan as a Voice major in performance in 2007. At MacEwan she was the vocalist in the Grant MacEwan Jazz Combo which was the opening band at the Yardbird Suite Jam Oct (2006) and performed at the lobby at the Winsphere Centre in Feb(2007). In the last 2 years she has performed at Jeffrey’s Cafe, Hulberts, The Four Rooms and at Le Table de Renoir for the Edmonton Jazz Festival in June (2007)
Keristan is releasing her first album this year called “Awake in Love” a compilation of old and new jazz songs, half of which are originals. Her originals will appeal to the younger generation and the standards will be familiar to all. Through this album Keristan hopes to reach a wide range of audiences throughout her local and greater community. By performing in venues around Edmonton she aims to become more recognized in Edmonton. She plans to tour Canada, and get her songs on a radio station like CKUA.
