With a unique blend of electro, house, and urban music, Kinesis has brought a new talent and energy to the Chicago music scene. He has quickly established himself as a rising star on the underground scene, DJing shows with national acts such as Crystal Castles, B.O.B., and Mattie Safer of the Rapture, as well as with many of the Chicago’s leading local djs such as Timbuk2, Members Only, Starter DJ’s, and Skyler. Kinesis has also performed at nightclubs such as Filthy Libertine, Betty’s Blue Star Lounge, and Tantrum Lounge.
Growing up in Iowa, Kinesis’ interest in djing was first sparked as a teenager by watching and helping out older friends who would dj at weddings and graduation parties. His interest continued to grow in high school when he was exposed to a wide range of musical tastes in his Radio class, from hip hop to metal, and where he briefly had a weekly radio. After graduating high school Kinesis continued to pursue his interest in djing and the music business by starting his own successful mobile dj business. He also got involved in the local music scene in Des Moines by helping set up and plan events for the DMMC (Des Moines Music Collation) and by djing at the 515 Alive Urban Music Festival.
After moving to Chicago Kinesis continued to refine his mixing skills, taking a djing class taught by veteran Chicago house DJ Charles Matlock. He also got involved with the Student Programming Board and DJ Collective at Columbia College, djing and helping plan several on-campus events. Most recently he has started doing more promotional work, throwing several successful underground parties and doing street team work for major concerts for DJ’s and live acts such as Deadmau5, Crookers, Wale, the Prodigy, Kid Cudi, Chromeo, and Snoop Dogg, just to name a few. He has also been elected president of the Columbia DJ Collective, where dj’s network and work together to get gigs and learn new skills.
