Laurene Palmiere was born and raised in the city of Campbell River, British Columbia. The youngest of four girls, Laurene’s family realized early on she was a dreamer and a showboat born with a passion for singing, writing and performing.
From school plays to church choirs to her own living room, Laurene was always looking for an audience! At age 21, Laurene began songwriting when she joined a band in Campbell River. They did some local performances and wrote a handful of songs before going their separate ways.
Laurene relocated to Calgary at age 24, started working in the oil and gas industry, and found an outlet for her singing by attending open mic sessions and writing poetry. She eventually joined a local band in 2005, where she met Scott. It didn’t take long for them to realize that they both had similar goals and passions about life, including music.
Scott Dionne was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia to parents with a strong sense of wanderlust, and therefore spent his youth growing up throughout Nova Scotia and then Victoria, British Columbia. Growing up listening to his parent’s Country classics gave Scott an appreciation for honest music, which remained even after hitting his teens and gravitating towards the dark side of music: heavy metal. Scott developed a passion for the bass guitar in grade school and being the only bass player in the school allowed him to also explore music in various ‘garage’ bands, culminating in the recording of a highly acclaimed (only by the group members) alternative rock album in his grade twelve year.
Following in his parent’s footsteps, Scott found himself relocating throughout Alberta and BC for the next 18 years in search of the ever-elusive, meaningful career. Through it all, he always managed to stay connected to music by playing with local bar bands in his search for musical inspiration and satisfaction. It was in one of these bands where Scott met Laurene in 2005, and as the saying goes, life as he knew it would never be the same.
After the band broke up later that year, Scott and Laurene continued their relationship both on a personal level and as a singer-songwriter duo. They played a few cafe and open mic events (with Scott playing acoustic guitar this time), performing some of their favorite cover songs.
It wasn’t until late summer of 2007 that writing original material began for the duo. More than an actual decision to write anything, the first song literally "came out" while Scott and Laurene were jamming at home one afternoon. The creative streak continued, and within a few weeks, they’d written ten songs. They knew it was something special; something magical, and they couldn't just leave their home recordings on the shelf and go back to living life as they’d known it.
