Lily Wilson grew up out in the country in Napa, California. Having sung in choirs throughout school, her music career started when she moved to Spain for a year at nineteen. While there she was inspired by the Flamenco music coming from the gypsy caves above the city, and the Moroccan music that filled her neighborhood. She performed on street corners, tea shops, and clubs all over Andalusia.
