With a burst of energy, and high likea bility factor Lucas arrived in New York just over a year ago with his EP of chilled out acoustic pop, and his favorite guitar, this talented artist has managed to secure a management deal with the Tyler Music Group (famous for their work with Taylor Swift, Jewel and The Dixie Chicks), the usage of one of his songs in award-winning director Andrew Hunts forthcoming movie and an ever expanding fan base. Born just outside of Melbourne, Lucas grew up with his mothers two stringed guitar for a toy. As soon as he was old enough, he bought himself a fully functional version, taught himself to play and at 15 joined a local band taking on the role of guitarist and songwriter. With an obvious talent for music he went on to study performing arts at the prestigious Brent Street performing arts school in Sydney. He worked hard quickly became a student of note and in his final year, he was offered the opportunity to perform on stage with US star Kelly Clarkson for the opening ceremony of the NRL grand final football. After leaving Brent Street, Lucas took on a series of acting jobs before he was cast in the cast of the musical WICKED in Osaka, Japan. He went on to stay in Japan for over a year and whilst there started focusing on his songwriting again. After he had gathered together sufficient material, Lucas hired a studio and started performing to live audiences in Japan developing a loyal following. After Japan, Lucas returned home to Australia determined to launch his music career. He racked up performing experience playing numerous local bars across Sydney achieved some success collaborating with producers and artsts and even performed an acoustic set at Nova FM radio station. However, wanting to steer clear of the pop idol merry-goround and inspired by fellow Australians like The Veronicas who had achieved success overseas, Lucas decided to book a flight to New York, a place hed never visited before. In his second week in the city he went to numerous iconic New York venues and talked his way onto the bill at the Sidewalk Café The Living Room, 8 Mile Creek and National Underground and it was during one of his performances that his fortunes changed. 'After one of my gigs a guy came up and we started chatting. He said that he liked my music and recommended that I get in contact with The Tyler Music Group'. I found out that theyd worked with a range of incredible artists including Jewel who'd been a huge inspiration to me growing up. So I decided to give it a shot and send my music off. Within weeks, Lucas heard back from them, they loved Stars and Blue and wanted to sign him up. He was quickly invited to the companys base in Nashville where he spent time recording new tracks for a debut album, My Name In Wingdings, at the historic Sound Emporium studios. For the next stage, Lucas is preparing to return to Nashville in the spring to perform a series of showcases for major US record executives. True to form though, Lucas isnt resting on his laurels, he's currently working with American poet Matthew Domino turning his poetry into songs and gearing up for an extensive East Coast US tour scheduled to take place this summer. Not one to forget his roots, family, friends and fans in Australia (and beyond) can also catch up with Lucas through his series of online shows which take place every weekend from various locations around New York City. Says Lucas, Knowing that friends and family from Australia are watching makes me feel closer to home and helps to ease any bouts of homesickness.
