ARTIST BIO The story of how Madison and Fifth was formed is a combination of coincidence, timing and destiny. All 5 members were born and raised in Ottawa, Canada. They had similar upbringings, attended the same high school and all had an undeniable passion for music. Throughout the years, collaborations with local bands had left them feeling unfulfilled and uninspired. In the winter of 2008, Etto approached his cousin John with the idea of forming a band. After a few initial jams, they were determined to find other musicians to collaborate with. Their friend, Layo DS, was asked to come out – and from that point riffs, ideas, melodies and song structures were being produced and drawn up. The embodiment of 3 different guitar styles and sounds made one unique sound – and that was the sound of MN5th. What began as 3 friends hanging out eventually turned into productive writing sessions and once the missing pieces (Carlo P and Jimbo) were added to the mix – the rest was history. Once all 5 members played together and began collaborating there was an undeniable chemistry that separated it from any of their previous projects. Each member looked at each other and knew that they were destined to write music together. MORE ABOUT MADISON AND FIFTH Layo DS - Vocals, Rhythm Guitar Layo’s unique, signature hard-rock-influenced vocal range gives Madison and Fifth a distinct sound. His lyrics are relatable to a wide variety of audiences along with powerful melodies and catchy hooks. His simplistic melodic-jive rhythmic guitar playing sits well within the mix of guitar players amongst the band. Johnny 5 - Vocals, Piano, Rhythm Guitar Johnny’s exposure to different genres of music allows him to “think outside the box” during the writing process of songs. His intricate piano playing and acoustic guitar writing talents have allowed him to be the driving force behind MN5th’s fresh – new aged - unique sound. Johnny’s emo-style vocals serve as a nice compliment to Layo’s raspy aggressive vocal tones. Etto - Lead guitar Etto’s axe man guitar playing abilities compliment Johnny’s acoustic tempos and Layo’s simple jives. Etto can transform a simple chord structure into a series of captivating riffs that serve as a layered blanket over the rhythm guitar section of Johnny and Layo. Etto’s capability of writing melodic lead guitar licks has brought back an element which has been sorely missed in modern music for years – the ability to “tell a story” through a complimentary guitar solo. Jimbo - Bass guitar Jimbo can listen to a rhythm guitar section of a particular song and decipher a unique place for himself within the mix – at the same time – he will not stray away from the songs back beat section. Jimbo’s unique combination of blues, jazz and hard rock scales has given MN5th a groovy flow throughout their songs. Carlo P - Drums Carlo P’s drumming sound is the foundation and the dynamic energy behind each Madison and Fifth song. Carlo P’s drumming has served as a loud, powerful and solid base for Madison and Fifth. Carlo’s metal-bashing influenced fills, along with Jimbo’s bass playing abilities, acts as a tight combination for a crisp beat-rhythm section. A New Beginning… After playing many shows and obtaining positive feedback, the band decided to record a self-titled EP. People who heard the music were absolutely flabbergasted. The old school “guitar god” rockers loved the intricate solos heard in “It’s Over”– the metal heads loved the aggressiveness of “Truth Serum”– the women loved the soft-sensitivity of “Remember the Times” – while the guys related the honesty of “One Night.” Modern music fans took to the melodic rock and harmonies of “Forbidden Fruit” and listeners were moved by the grandiose power ballad “The Last Time.” The record confirms that MN5th has something for everyone. The band then released 2 new singles “Worth the Wait” and “The Fight” in the spring of 2010. These songs exemplify the growth of the band and their fans were blown away by the groove, power and connection to these songs. Each of their songs defines the modern music industry – a “melting pot” of different tastes and influences. From powerful rock anthems – to moving piano ballads - to funky influenced jives; there are no limits to the sound of MN5th. The band has continued to write new material, and are set to release new material in the coming months. The band’s live shows have proven to be just as spectacular. Selling out numerous clubs throughout Canada; the bands chemistry, stage presence and spine chilling performances have converted more fans with each gig played. Madison and Fifth has the look, the sound, the live show and the undeniable passion to write and perform their music. The band has sold out all shows in the Ottawa area and made it to the final rounds of the Big Money Shot and Battle of the Bands competitions. They also had a blistering performance at the Outback Camping Festival in London, Ontario in May of 2010. The band has also given back to their community by donating concert revenues to Haiti relief and playing various fundraisers throughout Ontario. Moving forward, the band has continued to record new material and play sold out shows. Their main goal will be to bring back integrity, passion, honesty and truth to mainstream music today
