Introducing Maffew... Armed with pure lyrical prowess, hunger and talent that comes along with a Brooklyn MC's pedigree, Maffew Ragazino Sr. enters Hip-Hop as an artist on a mission many consider impossible, "the it factor" . Maffew specializes in music that's not just about the beat, the dance or the club but a combination of all driven by the artist/MC who commands the track with lyrics, flow, content, charisma, swagger and contagious energy. Growing up in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn, New York, Maffew began rhyming at the age of 7 during a time in Hip-Hop when rappers and rap groups were as different from one another, as one day is to the next. Influenced by his youngest uncle who kept the likes of Big Daddy Kane, Notorious B.I.G., Brand Nubian, A Tribe Called Quest, Snoop, Dr. Dre, Slick Rick, KRS-One and several others in heavy rotation Ragazino Sr. was both nurtured and forced to "push his pen" at an early age. Having spent a number of years in Virginia he was able to fully focus and hone every aspect of his repertoire. His presence in the booth similar to that of a confident quarterback in the pocket, Maffew creates and arranges songs with various content, flows, pace and purpose. Both summarizing the environment as well as capturing the moment. Maffew would eventually return to Brooklyn in 2006 with the team coming together bubbling quietly like the thunderous roar of the 3 train leaving Brooklyn, his talent would not go unrecognized. The young up and coming MC was quickly enlisted by Shakedown's very own, Bad Boy/Konvict recording artist Red Café, for his album with DJ Envy called "The Co-Op". On this project Maffew was featured on two tracks Invincible and Section 8. Then most recently teaming again with Red Café & Talib Kweli for the "I'm In Love" track produced by the great Pete Rock. In addition under his moniker St. Maffew, he appeared on Sean Price's mixtape "Kimbo Price" (Weed & Hoes). “I originally met Maffew when he was 15, in a store where everyone was battling. I thought he was the best out of all of them lyrically but thought he needed to grow up because his voice wasn't there. Flash forward, a few years later I met him again when he grew up and his voice was right, his rhymes, and his swag. He is an artist. So right from there, I started fucking with him.”- DJ Clark Kent (abcdrduson.com interview excerpt) No longer would the Brooklynite MC go unnoticed. Maffew was asked to perform for BEYOND RACE MAGAZINE at the prestigious Santos Party House. Unbeknown to the crowd or even promoters this would be Maffew's coming out party, marking his first show ever as an artist. When the three song set was over, the audience was left stunned and amazed. Immediately the Host and audience called Maffew back for an encore which he gladly accepted. This opened the eyes of one, Jomo Davis producer of BET's The Deal who then offered Maffew a spot on a segment called The Cipher that included hip-hop legend Sadat X and other up and coming artists. After gaining the respect from some of hip-hops heavyweights, Maffew is currently ready to guide his own path, finishing up on his "Where I'm From EP", with production from DJ Clark Kent, Sha-Banga, DJ Khalil, Jaisu and Nottz, who produced the single for the self-titled track which features another Brooklyn legend Masta Ace. The 6 track EP will provide a sample of what's next to come. As well as his mixtape entitled "II Cool IV School" hosted by DJ Clark Kent with tracks provided by legendary producers such as Swizz Beatz, Just Blaze, Bink! Dog, Spanador (of Track Masters) Big Throwback, OJ Loopz, S-Type, Jon Phonics, Jay Large, Jeekay, and Naïve. In the near future be on the look out for new video's "Where I'm From" and "Get It Together". Lastly, soon to come to a mic near you, the one and only—M.oney A.nd F.ame F.uels E.veryone's W.orld. This is one train you don't want to miss...
