From playing guitar in his Kitchener high school music class, to selling out hometown venues, to showcasing at major festivals, Mandippal has certainly come a long way in his eight career as a musician, establishing himself as one of the hardest working artists in Toronto. Coming from a family of well-respected musicians and writers (like Mercury Prize winner Talvin Singh), Mandippal has been gaining a steady following, by focusing solely on his own blend of poetry and pop/rock. At 24, he has already made a lasting impression in Ontario's booming singer/songwriter scene, landing opening spots with notable acts like Jully Black, Sarah Slean, Justin Nozuka, Craig Cardiff, Dala, David Francey, Liam Titcomb, Said The Whale, Hannah Georgas, The Framework, and many others. In the last few years, Mandippal's success has certainly started to show. He has been featured on Toronto's Talent (Rogers TV), South Asian Newsweek (OMNI TV), Brit Asian Magazine (UK), CJIQ FM (Conestoga College), CIUT FM (University of Toronto), IndieLove.ca (Toronto), IndieCan Radio (Toronto), The Record (Kitchener-Waterloo), Qatalyst Magazine (Kitchener-Waterloo), Tambourine Magazine (Toronto), along with three consecutive showcases at S.C.E.N.E. Music Festival in St Catherine's, showcases at the 2007 COCA Regional Conference and the 2009 COCA National Conference, and a coveted slot at 2008's NXNE Music and Film Festival. With eight years of songwriting and performing under his belt, 150+ shows played a year, 2000+ EP's sold in the last year, and a new album in production, Mandippal is finally getting recognized as a serious player.
