In the true fashion of overnight success, the new single “Party Girls” is catapulting pop duo Matches and BiG AL to the forefront of the dance music scene. Exactly one day after recording the single on June 2, it hit the airways first on Top 40 Houston radio station 104.1 KRBE, and was soon featured on the website for HOT 95.7, another Top 40 station in Houston. Since then, the pair has been on the often heard about, rarely experienced instant fame roller coaster, shopping their new hit and reeling at the thought of how it began. Matches With a Mechanical Engineering Degree from the University of Houston, Matches is an unlikely candidate for a pop music sensation. Upon graduating, he worked two years in Houston’s oil and gas industry before pursuing his musical aspirations. “I owned the first MP3 player ever made (a Creative Rio), and growing up I wrote rhymes in my spare time. I always knew the hottest song out and listened to mixtapes every day,” he said. Matches’ musical influences span from S.U.C. (Houston-based rap family Screwed Up Click) to David Guetta to Black Eyed Peas to LMFAO and back around to nationally acclaimed Houston rap group The Geto Boys. “I can relate to rappers like Kanye West and Asher Roth, and though I graduated college, I have an undeniable passion for music. It’s influenced and guided me through hard times in my life.” Of Polish and Puerto Rican descent, Matches is looking to carve a niche in the entertainment industry. Banking on his talent, passion for music and acting aspirations he says, “The sky is the limit.” BiG AL BiG AL couples a unique idea of sound with an automatic talent for freestyling. Son of a rock band member, he was born into and raised in a home filled with music. With his father’s home studio handy, it seemed second nature for BiG AL to pursue music as a creative outlet. He has a background in choir and often draws on it to create a progressive sound. He follows a strict musical guideline: M.O.E. (Music Over Everything). “I think Bob Marley said it best, ‘One good thing about music, when it hits, you feel no pain!” BiG AL first freestyled when he was six-years-old. A rapper by trade, he never turned his back on new and creative ways to make people dance and enjoy music. Coupling that with his love of reggae, (he notes Houston’s DJ SUPANEIL as an inspiration), BiG AL brings his humorous nature and love of entertaining to the music he makes. He’s able to supply a witty and upbeat countenance to the overall sound that ultimately identifies Matches and BiG AL. He said, ”My motto is: You call it clever. I call it whatever. I don’t get bitter. I only get better…. Well, Drake actually says the ‘I don’t get bitter. I only get better,’ but his come up in this game is an unbelievable inspiration for me. It makes me feel anything is possible.” “Party Girls” is the first single from Matches and BiG AL.
