Matthew Mason is from Louisville, Kentucky. Ever since Matt started listening to music, he had become increasingly passionate about it. Starting off with influences such as Hootie and The Blowfish, Sister Hazel and The Goo Goo Dolls, he grew curious about music and eventually became involved through the middle and high school band and choir. In between his sophomore year in high school, Matt moved to Virginia to live with his father who at the time was a self-employed contractor working at Smith Mountain Lake to provide for the family living back home in Louisville. During that time, Mathew found an interest for acoustic guitar after receiving free lessons from a local church. Due to time and management issues, the church put an end to having guitar lessons however, Matt decided to carry on in making efforts to gain instrumental capability from studying newer interests of music with bands such as Incubus, James Taylor and Jimmy Eat World. Throughout his senior year in high school, Matt was eager to perform for local audiences and therefore teamed up with friend, Daniel Medley (currently drummer of “We Know, Plato!”) in creating a 4-piece indie rock band, “Thanking Speed's Neighbor” (being both Matt and Daniel's first time experimenting with putting on shows and writing albums). The band eventually broke up after their first tour in early June of 2007 over mutual feelings that it was time to try new things. Daniel then moved to Richmond while Matt and band mates, Sammy South-Finkelstein and Chris Mundy persisted to complete college. Currently, Matt is continuing to write songs and is working on his first studio album, “Sit Still, Relax & Chill”, with Jacob Clayton of Lost Colony Records.
