In just one year since moving to Nashville, McClain has accomplished what many artists strive to achieve during an entire career. This husband and wife duo is now performing to sold-out crowds, their songs have aired on popular television shows, and music critics across the country are proclaiming McClain the next breakout Folk/Americana act--comparing them to the likes of Gillian Welch, Ryan Adams, and Mindy Smith. Travis and Lindsay met in Los Angeles in 2004--Travis was living in a one-room apartment, playing in various bands, and struggling to make ends meet while Lindsay was finishing up her undergraduate degree at Pepperdine University. The two hit it off, and it wasn’t long before they started writing songs together, working out melodies and experimenting with harmonies. Each the other’s muse, both Travis and Lindsay immediately recognized the creative spark and chemistry between them, and their songwriting flourished. Reflecting on their initial collaborations, Lindsay notes, "It was kind of the beginning of us coming together—giving ideas back and forth to each other, and trying out songs with different harmonies. It was always the thing that we would sort of do in secret. But it just sort of became what we really loved, and after a while it was like, this is what you need to be doing." Travis adds, “After 12 songs were laid down on this really budget 8-track recorder that we had, Lindsay actually made a web page and we started getting requests for CDs…and we didn't even have one. So we ended up just making these CDs by hand. We made 300, and they were all sold in like 2-3 months." With a boost of confidence from the initial success of their lo-fi recording, in 2007 Travis and Lindsay married and re-located to Nashville, quickly immersing themselves in Nashville’s thriving indie scene. The duo teamed with producer Mike Odmark and in May of 2008 McClain released their debut EP entitled The Ivy EP. Since its release, The Ivy EP has received a stack of praise from Nashville music critics and respected music bloggers. But it’s not just the critics who are impressed. McClain’s music defies traditional demographic boundaries, and it’s resonating with people young and old from Nashville to Los Angeles and all points in between. But as good as The Ivy EP is, it’s McClain’s live performance that’ll draw you in and never let you go. Whether they’re performing as a duo or with the full band, McClain’s live show is on par with the best that Nashville has to offer. McClain is currently touring in support of The Ivy EP, and has begun work on their next record, slated for a Summer 2009 release.
