MD-1 started rappin back in middle school at Linglestown at the tender age of 12. My influence in the beginning was Bow Wow (Lil' Bow Wow during the time). My mom went out & got him his second album "Doggy Bag" in 2001. After listening to the CD, I was impressed with how a kid that young (he was 14) could spit & flow good. However, what really impressed me was that he didn't curse at all throughout the album. With rappers like Eminem, 50 Cent, etc. coming through the scene, I wanted to separate myself from others as I wanted to prove that rappers don't need to curse in order to be good. That's the motivation I used to carry myself throughout my rap career. As I'm sure many artists remember how they started off, I wasn't no natural talent as I used to only spit for fun & humor. However, once I became a freshman in high school & honed my game over the past couple summers to further improve myself, I decided to make my first rap album. That first album was called "Summer Pimpin" which debuted in 2004. The album was about how my style was with the ladies & treating them as if they're all queens. Though that was my first album, after listening to it, I knew I could do so much better lyrically & the sound being more professional. I took a couple years off to continue grindin & improvin myself so that the next album I make would totally obliterate my first album. During that time frame, I improved dramatically in the freestyle department as I started to battle cats in & out of school. Also, I freestyled at parties and just whenever I wanted to come up with some fresh ideas. After going through rigorous training, I came out with my second album called "All Grown Up" when I was a junior back in 2006. With help from my bull Billy producing & editing my album with Cool Edit Pro, I knew that this album was destined for having my listeners know that I wasn't playin as I wanted them to get to know the real me. All Grown Up's basically about how my maturity over time not only as a person, but also as a rapper was displayed as the tracks were more on point & my lyrical game overall was nicer. This was the first album I decided to sell as I didn't feel that Summer Pimpin was good enough for business. I felt like I accomplished a lot of things through this album as my listeners started to respect me more as a non-cursing rapper & stickin toward my dream. In 2007, my senior year, I came out with yet another album called "Senior Prodigy." This album was self-produced & edited by myself through a program called Music Maker 10 Deluxe. Senior Prodigy culminated all four years of my high school life & looking ahead toward achieving goals in college. Like All Grown Up, Senior Prodigy was an established album as my fans grew to love listening about how times at high school were and actually seeing themselves going through the same experiences I've went through from peer pressure to prom night to graduation. After being out of high school for two years & improving dramatically, I wanted to let my listeners know that I haven't forgotten about my love of music & bringing joy to listeners alike, so I decided to make my fourth album. For this project, I made a few changes from my previous albums as I wanted to make this CD the best one I ever made. One change's that I got some equipment which included a dynamic mic, a music program called Cubase LE 4, & the Alesis Multimix 8 USB mixer. Also, unlike my previous albums, I wanted to work with other artists that would bring so'em new to the table. I worked with rapper Killa Kev on a track called "What a Journey" and singer Teejay Slaughter on the track called "Dedication." On April 14th, I released my 4th rap album called "I MD-1 and Only." The album's not about me being the best rapper, but me being my own artist as my style's different from everyone else & I wanted to represent lyrics that are real, smooth, & can reach out to the masses. At this point, I feel satisfied with what I've accomplished so far. I know that there are many artists starving for that dream to break out one day at a huge venue, but as for me, God's the only one who can point me at the right direction. One thing's for sure & that's me stickin with my own self-goal of being one of the better non-cursing rappers out who can get a point across any topic.
