Ortner has something to talk about as she debuts at Hotel Café.
She was recently blogged about from Pharrell’s band, “Chester
French” of Interscope Records and was invited to perform at Kate
Hudson’s Christmas Party ending the year with a bang. She was
voted Best of 2009 and 2008 for KLAS FM Radio in Los Angeles.
A semi-finalist for IMWSC, Melinda has been building her
growing fan base in the tough love trenches of Los Angeles. She is
in the midst of recording a full length debut record and has just
released a music video for her song “Heartbeats”. Nominated for
Best Pop Artist at LA Music Awards, she got to perform four times
at Sundance Film Festival 2010.
Melinda grew up in a musical family in northern California, her
father, a music teacher and multi-instrumentalist. She hated her
piano lessons growing up but was pushed to practice before any
play or dinner. Growing up listening to the great jazz singers, Ella
Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Nat King Cole, it made an impression in
her own singing style. Her music is influenced by bands like
Radiohead, Fiona Apple, The Pixies, and Muse, and loves to
incorporate a variety of styles to create new sounds. She often
combines make believe stories with a bit of her own truth, or a lot
of her own truth in her songwriting. “One of the most uniquely
talented people I have heard on MySpace and as a producer” – Les
July, pro-guitarist for Slash, Dr. Dre, Herbie Hancock.
