Instead of speaking from the 3rd person, I'm going to tell you how it is, from my own perspective... I’m a singer, songwriter, and pianist. I began classical training in piano (playing the works of the greats: Chopin, Mozart, and some Gershwin) and started to sing at the age of 4. At the age of 10, I had a creative urge to begin telling my story through songwriting. It’s hard to imagine what a ten year-old could possibly write about. I actually had a lot on my mind, and I poured all of my thoughts onto paper while sitting at the piano, which led me to where I am today. Growing up, I was heavily influenced by Aretha Franklin. There is just ’something’ about soul singing. I truly admire the great ’Soul Singers’ of our day – Donny Hathaway’s smoothness, Sam Cooke’s brilliance, Etta James’ vibrancy, Aretha’s power...But my influences don't stop there. Fleetwood Mac, Big Star, The Thrills to Postal Service, The New Pornographers, Sloan, Camera Obscura, etc...listening to all different types of music helps you experience different feelings and emotions at different times. I could go on forever! These figures in the music world are my inspiration. I express all of my emotion and energy through music – until it hurts! I also bring in a mixture of pop, rock, and acoustic sound – I’m a soul girl with a ROCK edge sprinkled with candy! Music is my world. I want to be able to connect with everyone through my songs. When people truly relate to my songs, I get a feeling I can’t describe in words. Performing live is what makes it so meaningful. My songs portray the good, the bad, the love, and the lost. They speak about confusion and clarity – everything we experience in life. I’ll share with you my ultimate passion and I promise you nothing less than what I have to offer – my all.
