His biggest influence was his grandfather, who was the county sheriff and also owned the town’s bar. The color and diversity of the dry desert shaped his perspective on life and music: life was hard so you played hard. Michael David kept up with the pace, even in high school, rather than working a "normal" summer job pushing hamburgers, he drove his own stock car at a local dirt track every Saturday night. Influenced by many late nights working on his car, the music of Toby Keith, Garth Brooks, and Randy Travis tore it up for him on the one station he could get on his car radio.
