After packing everything in a car and moving from her home in Indiana to Tulsa, OK, Mindy Bartlett has swept Tulsa's folk music fans off of their feet. "Mindy Bartlett catches her audience's attention with soulful lyrics that she hopes get stuck in your head."- Katie Sullivan, Music Editor for the Urban Tulsa Weekly. She is currently putting the finishing touches on a few new peices before hitting the studio in Spring 2011. Working with other local musicians, new styles and infulences, this will be a project to blow her listeners away. Also, in the works is the creation of a collection of improvisational works recorded live. Until then, she can be found giving a sneak peak of the new releases at local open mic events. Bartlett grew up in central Indiana, surrounded by all things rural. It may be hard to tell where it began, but something along the line sparked her curiosity to see more than what she had known. A self-taugh guitar player, she began playing at age fourteen on a guitar she found in her grandparent's garage. Mindy, being on the shy side, soon found that singing was a whole new way to communicate. She played in church, and had some band flings in college, where she recieved her formal education in music. After graduation her music really took flight. This is when she made the move to Tulsa and instantly began to find an audience. Starting out a local coffee shops, open mics, and releasing her first self-titled work, the Urban Tulsa Weekly soon chose her for Sound Proof, their spotlight artist of the month, which was held by David Cook only a few months earlier. Since then she has done some traveling also. She was part of the first annual Mid American Music Festival in Omaha. Has traveled to play in St. Loius, San Diego, Dallas, Eureka Springs AR, Wichita and has taken a coffee shop tour through Texas. Music is the vehicle that drives her curiosity to meet other people, to see new places and to think new things. This is reflected in much of her writing and improvisational work. Taking such ordinary places and making them sound enchanted, or just the realization that this is the road that can lead to anywhere. ‘Colorado,’ ‘Wichita’, ‘Rio Grande’ are just some of the songs that you will hear in a Mindy Bartlett set. Her anticipated release will show signs of her traveling spirit, but go much deeper into the psyche of the musician. Struggles with her past, beliefs, identity, love and growing up are just some of the auto-biographical themes that will be found on her next two releases.
