Portrait of Misnomer(S)

About Misnomer(S)

brooklyn, NY

Knewdles and Sos are unusual sisters. Though they are of marriageable age, they choose to live with each other and bang out hip hop together in their brownstone apartment in Bed-Stuy, BK

Knewdles, the younger, louder, and taller sister, is the rapper and producer. One word spit and her ability is clear. Though far from a battle rapper, Knewdles is known for her impressive command over crowds, aggressive flows, and breath control. Her rapping style is an extension of her personality: full of vibrance, vigor, and emotion. Fueled by her unique perspective and set of experiences, Knewdles mouths off on a range of topics. While she often stretches the imagination to defy what hip hop songs are about lyrically, she nevertheless manages to find that key common ground with her audience

Sos, the still loud, still tall, still young older sister, is the violinist and co-producer. She is the heartbeat and heartbreak of the outfit. With her soulful touch, Sos raises the potency of the music by providing a different kind of emotive complement to Knewdles’s vocals. Her voice melds classical with hip hop with jazz, creating music that defies a need for genre identification. With such agile fingers and achingly rich tone, it’s no wonder that Sos has blessed the music of Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Alicia Keys

Together, Misnomer(S) is steadily building a diverse and devoted fanbase that crosses race, class, and age groups, having won over numerous audiences ranging from the curious to the hostile to the indifferent. Since their group formation two years ago, Knewdles and Sos have performed over forty live shows from Philly to NYC, made national television and radio appearances, and recorded their self-produced debut album. The sisters commit themselves to building their unique sound and vision, and sharing their hip hop and themselves with those who are open to good music. Look out for the debut Misnomer(S) full-length album, Just What The World Needs, dropping in ’08.
