Named after a blisteringly funky original song, Mojo Nation was born in the Washington, DC area in early 2005. Multi-instrumentalist/songwriter/vocalist Steve Sidley and drummer Ted Ray founded the group after the dissolution of their previous band (everyone’s favorite east coast power funk trio - Sam’s House) a year earlier. With firm roots in the world of rock and funk, Steve and Ted began their excellent adventure by incorporating electronics and drum loops to create a densely layered sound that also included reggae, hip hop and most anything else they found lying around Ted’s basement floor. After driving down a few guitar related cul-de-sacs, R&B/Jazz guitarist Earl Carter (formerly of E.U. - remember that song “Da Butt”?) joined the fold adding an even wider palette of tonal colors from jazzy funk to scorching rock. After Ted Ray’s untimely death in the summer of 2005, drummer Mike Corbett entered the picture bringing his hard hitting style of rock and soul timekeeping to the band’s evolving sound. The year 2007 saw Mojo Nation film a live three song DVD and record their debut full length release, “Everybody Loves a Happy Ending.” Mixed by Doug Derryberry (Dave Matthews) and featuring 13 original songs including the single “Absolution”, the album is scheduled to be released nationwide in March 2008 on the My Money Records label. “Everybody Loves a Happy Ending” has garnered a lot of praise from industry folks and fans alike in advance of its release and Steve Sidley’s songs have been heard on radio stations across the country and around the world (Steve’s songs have also been featured on the MTV program “Celebrity Undercover”). As a live act, Steve Sidley and Mojo Nation are a dynamic, high energy experience with Steve playing an amazing variety of instruments onstage and rocking major venues, colleges and festivals with eye grabbing and ear catching intensity. With their huge sound and Steve’s emotionally resonant songs they quickly connect with and win over audiences with their musicianship and playful charm (which is no small feat for a band dedicated to its original music in a market becoming increasingly dominated by tribute and cover bands.) Appealing to a wide variety of audiences with their universality and eclecticism, Steve Sidley and his band create unique and powerful music that transcends genre so maybe it can best be described with two words... Mojo Nation.
