My first guitar was given to me when i was 13 years old in 7th grade of 2004. It was an acoustic squire, my very first and my baby. The reason for getting the guitar was because i've always looked at playing guitar as something so awesome to learn, and something that looked really fun, so as a result i asked my band teacher if i could join the 7th grade jazzband even if i didnt know one thing about the guiar or how to play. He said it was fine, and so when i joined i learned a bit from my soon-o-become guitar buddy, Sarah O'brien who was also new to the guitar but knew more than me. She taught me a few cords. At home i would learn on my own with this guitar book that taught all the basic cords and strings. I hadnt realized how hard guitar was and was bound to give up but because for some miraculous reason i was forced to take guitar as an elective for 8th grade, taking this class mostly made me pursue playing the guitar than just learning it. So, in the 8th grade a took only a semester of guitar just to make sure i knew the simple ideas of playing cords and notes and ways to strum. At this time i was still of course playing in the Jazzband. I started a band called Viresence with my guitar buddy Sarah and a former drummer named Matt. However for various reasons, the band split. Sarah and I went out to start another band which became known as The Blue Channel. It consisted of drummer Kyle, bass Jacob, 2nd guitarist Sarah, and lead vocals/guitarist, Monica (me). the band was in function but problems arose and the band split again. All four of us went our separate paths. I realized how hard being in a band was so rearosed solo in Finding Skylir. Of course a new additon to Finding Skylir would be former drummer, Kyle, who is now the drummer of Finding Skylir. But no larger will Finding Skylir become. In a way i still like I am solo. Kyle and I only practice a couple times a month, but at home i continue to make songs on my own and record. Finding Skylir is a name i came up with in the summer of July 2006. Skyler happens to be my favorite names, & decided to i changed the E to I in Skyler, forming Skylir. I didnt just want to call my band "Skylir", so i had to add a catchy word in front of it. "Finding" was the best thing i could come up with. That's how I became "Finding Skylir" and i dont think i'll be in any other musical groups than this. I hope to pursue as a famous guitar artist composer with the name Finding Skylir or plain old "Monica Agana".... I'm hoping to be on Vh1 someday.
