Ms Taylor P. Collins Vocalist – Songwriter – Entertainer “A veteran Bay Area performer who has been twice nominated for Best Female Vocalist at the South Bay Blues Awards, Collins is a confident and warm-voiced singer who can effect a Chaka Khan-like soul sound in one song and a throaty blues sound in another.” ~Mac McDonald-Monterey County Herald ~ Ms Taylor P. Collins, the oldest of five children and award winning vocalist, was born in Norfolk, Va on Friday the thirteenth in the middle of the worst blizzard Norfolk had ever seen. When Taylor was older her mother told her that she knew there was something very special about Taylor then, but little did she know that her daughter would emerge as one of the leading female vocalists in the San Francisco Bay Area in the world of Blues. Taylor sang Rock and Roll for a number of years before finding her niche in the Blues. Her mother Mrs. Ether Garner, an accomplished Gospel pianist and vocalist, and her uncle, George Hicks were very instrumental in Taylor’s musical upbringing and helped shape the sound that is uniquely Taylor today. Taylor’s style of Blues is sophisticated, powerful, and funky with jazz overtones presented as only Taylor can with her commanding stage presence, flash and glitz and her riveting 8pc band which currently boasts six women and two men who represent the best of the best for musicianship in the Bay Area. She has performed at the Monterey Bay Blues Festival, the San Jose International Jazz Festival, San Jose America Festival, Sacramento Heritage Festival, Fountain Blues Festival, The Waterfront Blues Festival in Portland, Or., and the AT&T Golf Tournament in Carmel Valley to name a few. Taylor and her band will be one of the headliners for the Monterey Blues Festival 2007 and the SJ Int’l Jazz Festival 2007. Taylor has performed in the company of industry legends such as Etta James, Neville Brothers, Barbara Morrison, Albert Collins, James Cotton, Gladys Knight, Kenny Neal and has performed with her very dear friend and mentor, the legendary Miss Ruth Brown and opened for and performed with John Handy and LaVerne Baker, and Jefferson Starship. Taylor has just completed work on her new music video DVD “Wish I Knew” which will be available for download soon! The video is also going to be featured in Ms Collins’ first indie feature film entitled “NECTAR” which is slated to start production soon. This will be Taylor’s first acting role and she also has the soundtrack for the film as well. Several of her original songs have been chosen for the film including her beautiful new ballad “Wish I Knew”. She will also be co-writing some new songs for the film with her keyboardist Pamela Charlles Arthur. Taylor is an artist whose time has truly arrived…she is truly Bluesified!!
