Simply put, Natalie’s a natural—in two essential areas. As a phenomenally talented musical artist and a very young and down-to-earth woman for today’s world, Natalie shines. Possessing inherent talent, a beautiful demeanor, and an ability to present herself with solid vocal, dance, and songwriting experience, Natalie’s sure to become the next role model for music youth and fans of all genres All of this adds up to one bright and exciting new-age star! Hailing from Clear Lake, Texas (a suburb of Houston) Natalie sprouted from some deeply planted musical roots. She was a Houston Rockets Power Dancer for seven seasons, and during that time (2002-03 season), she began a hobby as a Free Style Rap artist. There were only a few who had broken ground as female Rap stars in a male-dominant music genre, and Natalie emulated their work. She called it a hobby, tried her hand at it, and recorded some mix tapes that were played by DJ’s she knew on various radio stations out of Houston. She says she was “in the right place at the right time” when she had the opportunity to become a backup dancer and do some choreography for a current R&B/Pop artist from Houston. This drew lots of attention and increased further interest when she ended up performing with some talented Hip Hop artists who were gathered there at the club that night. Her background as an NBA dancer gave her a solid foundation from which to grow and her Free Style Rap talent (which she regards as an extra gift from God) garnered praise as well. After discovering she had vocal ability, she began her singing and songwriting career. Her efforts resulted in a style that, in her own words, was “kind of that soft, R&B driven melodic” flavor. As a debut artist, Natalie came out with a self titled album for Universal in 2005 that hit the Billboard charts at number 16. Her single, Goin’ Crazy, had already premiered and had hung at number 1 for six weeks before the album was released. In 2006 she released (Everything New) with Universal Republic. Natalie’s emerging new sound is taking her in a slightly different direction these days due to an association with Grammy winning producer E-Poppi, (who’s produced artists such as Missy Elliott, Beyonce, and Keyshia Cole.) Her own professional growth and evolution, with influences like Janet Jackson, Madonna, Beyonce, and Missy Elliott, play a big part in the development of her new style as well. Natalie has always been affected by women in the industry who “incorporate their dance style with their music.” With a tendency now towards more of an Urban Pop/Crossover style, her new music displays some up-tempo beats and harder hitting tracks. Sixteen songs within this realm have been completed, and she is in the process of recording more. Her newest release “Hey” is an exemplary track, and is meeting with huge favor at Natalie’s My Space right now. All of this has led to interest from major record labels and Natalie is presently considering signing a contract with one of them in the near future. What’s her favorite thing about the music business? Far and away—it’s the fans. “To have someone tell me that I’m an inspiration,” that’s like whoa, that’s so dope. For someone to know every single word to your songs, and even the songs that haven’t made CD’s—right there, those are real fans. And I have to say that I’m grateful for that because anyone can try to sing, anyone can put material out there for others to listen to. But as an artist, when you put your music out there and it’s something the listener attaches to, then it becomes truly meaningful. It really hits home because I write my own songs, and my lyrics come right from my heart. So when someone is attracted to that and they hold onto it and then come back for more, that means everything to me. When I’m on the road or even walking around the mall here in Houston and someone stops me to ask if they can get a picture, it just blows me away. I think to myself, what? Why do you want a picture of me—I’m just Nat! I’m just like you! Yeah, it’s definitely the fans that are at the top of the list for me.” But who is Natalie from the inside out and what makes her tick? First, there’s an ever-present faith in the Almighty and a dedication to her spiritual side. Natalie is fueled by the power of God and she derives solace and peace from the scriptures. She admires the men and women who spread and interpret His word as their life’s work and often quotes lines and phrases from their sermons as inspirational and motivational teachings. Then, there’s the determination of a heart and soul that drives her, the guidance and support of a strong and caring family, and an ability to believe that she can take on any challenge, however great it may be. Add on a happy go lucky approach to life, and there you have it—a life force that’s out to make it happen. This life force is Natalie!
